YANG Hongtai is currently an Associate Professor, doctoral supervisor, and master's supervisor. He completed his undergraduate studies at Shandong University (Graduated with Distinction) and obtained his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Tennessee in the United States, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Hong Kong. In 2024, he was selected as one of the top 2% of scientists globally (as published by Stanford University). His main research areas include the application of artificial intelligence in transportation systems, multi-source traffic big data mining, safety performance evaluation of autonomous driving, and transportation and land use.

    He has led several significant projects, including general and youth projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, youth projects of the Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Sciences Fund, the China Postdoctoral Fund's overseas programs and general projects, international scientific and technological innovation cooperation projects in Sichuan Province, projects from the Chengdu Science and Technology Bureau, the CCF-Tencent Rhinoceros Bird Fund, three projects funded by the basic operational expenses of central universities, as well as multiple open projects from national key laboratories.

    In the academic community, Professor Yang serves as the Associate Editor of Frontiers in Public Health, and is responsible for the editorial work of Transportation Research Record and Journal of Advanced Transportation. He also serves as a youth editorial board member for the Journal of Safety Science and is a member of the Behavioral Geography Committee of the Chinese Geography Society, as well as a committee member for the World Transportation Conference's Transportation Behavior Modeling and Policy Analysis Technology. Professor Yang has been selected as a "Seed Scholar" in the "Qingmiao Program" at Southwest Jiaotong University, and has participated in the Outstanding Young Mentor Cultivation Program. He has received recognition as an Outstanding Graduate Thesis Advisor and is an overseas high-level talent in Sichuan Province.

    Professor Yang has published dozens of papers in mainstream international journals in the transportation field, including IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, Transportation Research Part A/D/F, and Journal of Transport Geography. Among them, 2 papers have been classified as ESI Hot Papers, and 6 papers have been designated as ESI Highly Cited Papers, with over 2,200 citations on Google Scholar. In 2021, he ranked fifth in the contribution of ESI social science scholars at Southwest Jiaotong University.

    His research achievements have earned him several honors, including Outstanding Reviewer for Transportation Research Part D (twice), the Science and Technology Award from the China Intelligent Transportation Association (twice), First Prize for Excellent Paper at the 2023 "Digital Transportation and Smart Mobility Academic Forum," First Prize for Excellent Paper at the 12th Forum on Comprehensive Humanities and Social Sciences in 2022, and Best Paper Award at the ICTIS Conference in 2021. He has also been granted multiple national invention patents.

    In terms of teaching, Professor Yang won First Prize in the 7th Youth Teacher Teaching Competition at Southwest Jiaotong University and has led research projects in transportation education from the China Transportation Education Research Association, along with multiple undergraduate and graduate educational reform projects. He has guided students to win First Class A awards in the Western Region of the 11th China College Student Service Outsourcing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and his graduate students have repeatedly received national scholarships and awards for outstanding theses.
