Wang Ping, a native of Yichang, Hubei Province, is a member of the Communist Party of China. He obtained his doctor's degree in railway engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University in 1998 and stayed for teaching. He was successively ranked as an associate professor and professor and was awarded as doctoral supervisor in 2003. He has been awarded the special Government Allowance of The State Council expert, New Century Talent of the Ministry of Education, Academic and Technical Leader of Sichuan Province, Tianfu Outstanding Scientist of Sichuan Province, and was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2014.
Professor Wang is the leader of national key discipline of "Highway & Railway Engineering" in Southwest Jiaotong University, the director of MOE Key Laboratory of High-speed Railway Engineering, and the leader of Scientific and Technological Innovation team of Sichuan Province for "Theory of High-speed Railway Structure and Safe Service Technology". At present, he is a member of the general expert group of the National Key Research and Development Program "Advanced Rail Transit" of Ministry of Science and Technology National Key R&D Program, a member of the Technical Standards Committee of the National Railway Administration of China, the deputy director of the Rail Transit Engineering Branch of the China Railway Society, and an expert of the general expert group of the Joint Action of Sichuan-Tibet Railway science and Technology.
Professor Wang presided over the establishment of China's high-speed railway turnout design theory system and led the development of China's 250 km/h and 350 km/h series high-speed railroad turnouts. He found out the constraint mechanism and the law of action between continuously welded turnouts and bridge foundation and solved the adaptability problem of high-speed turnout applied to different foundation structures. And he has formed a high-speed railway track regularity maintenance technical system, which solves the technical problems of diagnosing the track regularity state and maintaining high regularity for a long time in the process of high-speed railway construction and operation. He has presided over more than 60 national, provincial and major engineering construction research projects, published more than 500 SCI/EI papers and 7 monographs, obtained more than 40 authorized invention patents, and participated in the compilation of 3 national industry standards. He has won 1 second prize of National Technological Invention Award (1st), 13 provincial science and technology awards, including 1 first prize of Natural Science Award (1st), 2 special prizes of Science and Technology Progress Award and 7 first prizes. And he also won the Zhan Tianyou Railway Science and Technology Achievement Award and the Mao Yisheng Railway Science and Technology Award.
