Dr. Yi Pan obtained his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Prof. Anderson Ho Cheung Shum, MEng degree in Biomedical Engineering from Sun Yat-sen University under the supervision of Prof. Changqing Yi, and BSc degree in Material Chemistry from South China Agricultral University.
His research interests include stimuli-response materials, bioinspired micro/nano-systems, microfluidics, soft robotics, and biosensors in biomedical and biomimetic engineerings. So far, he has published 25 papers in SCI journals, such as Science Advances, Nature Communications, Advanced Science, and ACS Nano. Some of his works have received media coverage, including AAAS EurekAlert!, MIT Technology Review, and more than 20 other domestic and foreign media.
In 2023, he joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Institute of Biomedical Engineering, College of Medicine, Southwest Jiaotong University as an associate professor. He has established the Morphing Matter & System research group, which is dedicated to exploring and developing novel morphing materials, intergrating morphing materials with micro/nano fabrications to design multi-functional morphing systems (e.g., biomimetic micro/nano-devices, microfluidic devices, soft robots, and biosensors.), and applying them to biomedical and biomimetic engineering. The research group is affiliated to the team of Frontier and Intersectional Biomaterials Research Centre led by Prof. Shaobing Zhou, and keeps cooperation with universities in mainland and HK, affiliated hospitals, and other research institutions.
