1. Profile
Dr. Zutao Zhang, is a distinguished Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Ph. D. He is a recipient of the Huo Yingdong Education and Teaching Award from the Ministry of Education, appointed as a Tianfu Special Teacher under the prestigious "Tianfu Qingcheng Program," and recognized as a prominent educator in Sichuan Province. Additionally, he has been honored with the Zhan Tianyou Education Award and is a distinguished Yanghua Scholar. Dr. Zhang is a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress. His innovative contributions have positioned him among the top 2% of scientists globally, as indicated by a collaborative ranking from Stanford University and Elsevier. Furthermore, he has been acknowledged as a Highly Contributing Scholar in China by the Alumni Association in 2023. In his professional capacity, Dr. Zhang serves as the Vice Chairman of the National Research Society for Teaching Mechanical Design and as the Director of the Mechanical Design (Transmission) Committee within the Sichuan Mechanical Engineering Society.
2. Teaching Profile
Professor Zhang Zutao has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to teaching and curriculum development. He is an integral member, lecturer, and partial course leader of numerous national teaching platforms and course resources, including the pioneering national boutique courses, national boutique resource sharing courses, national network courses, national boutique online open courses, national first-class undergraduate courses, and national demonstration centers for experimental teaching of basic mechanics. Within these platforms, Professor Zhang plays key roles such as overseeing the first batch of national quality online open courses in "Mechanical Design," managing the second batch of national quality online open courses in the "College Students' Science and Technology Innovation Series Courses" (consisting of 8 national quality online open courses), leading the first batch of national first-class undergraduate courses in "College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practices," and supervising the national blended first-class undergraduate course in "Mechanical Design." Additionally, he is responsible for the initial English courses in "College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practices" on the international platform "iCourse."
Under his guidance, Professor Zhang has presided over and lectured in 11 national first-class undergraduate courses, emphasizing a teaching approach that combines theoretical instruction with practical guidance to foster innovative talent. His team's efforts have been recognized with accolades such as the second prize in National Teaching Achievement in 2022, two special prizes in Sichuan Teaching Achievement in 2021 (ranking first and fifth), and a first prize in Sichuan Teaching Achievement in 2017 (ranking first). Over the past two decades, Professor Zhang's team has mentored students in competitions like the "National College Students Mechanical Innovation Design Competition" and the "China-US Youth Creative Competition," garnering over 190 awards, including an international first prize, a national special prize,33national first prizes,37national second prizes, and more than 70 provincial, ministerial, and institutional level awards. The team's achievements in fostering student innovation and creativity were highlighted on CCTV News on July 13,2015, as part of the program "National Comprehensive Implementation of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform."
3. Research Profile
Professor Zutao Zhang is a distinguished figure in the academic world, recognized as one of the top 2% of scientists globally by a collaborative ranking from Stanford University and Elsevier in October 2023. He is also acknowledged as a high-contributing scholar in China by the Alumni Association in 2023. His research focuses on new energy intelligent vehicles and their key technologies, new energy regeneration, and self-sensing technologies. In his research leadership capacity, Professor Zhang has chaired 3 National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) projects and supervised 1 NSFC Research Fund for Foreign Scholars (RFFS) project in China.
