Yang Song, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor (School of Electrical Engineering & SWJTU–Leeds Joint School). He is a recipient of the National High-Level Young Talent Program of China, the “Tianfu Emei Plan” Young Talent Program of Sichuan Province, an IEEE Senior Member, and a Distinguished Expert of the Chengdu “Rongpiao Plan.” He has previously served as a Research Fellow, Postdoctoral Fellow, and Researcher at the University of Huddersfield (UK), Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and Oslo Metropolitan University (Norway).
He has published over 130 papers in SCI/EI-indexed journals, including more than 60 papers as first or corresponding author in leading journals such as IEEE Transactions, Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, and Vehicle System Dynamics. Six of his publications have been recognized as ESI Highly Cited Papers (Top 1%). His total citations exceed 3,400, with an H-index of 35. He has been listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists for both Career-Long Impact and Annual Impact.
He has led three projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), including the Overseas Excellent Young Scientists Fund, a Joint Key Fund Project, and a General Program Project. He has also led one subproject under the National Key R&D Program of China (CZ Railway Special Project) and three provincial/ministerial-level projects (Sichuan Natural Science Foundation, Sichuan International Cooperation Project, and China State Railway Group research project). In addition, he has undertaken multiple industry-funded projects supported by China Railway Construction Electrification Bureau Group, China Academy of Railway Sciences Corporation Limited, National Engineering Research Center of Rail Transportation Electrification and Automation, State Key Laboratory of Traction Power, National Key Laboratory of Rail Transit Vehicle System, and the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Maglev Technology and Maglev Train. During his overseas research career, he participated in projects funded by Network Rail (UK), the Norwegian Railway Directorate, the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB, UK), the EU Shift2Rail program, the Norwegian Railway Directorate, and Hitachi Rail.
He serves on the editorial boards of several leading SCI journals, including Associate Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement (IF: 5.6, JCR Q1), Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (IF: 6.8, JCR Q1), Editorial Board Member of Railway Engineering Science (IF: 5.4, JCR Q1), Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems (IF: 11.0, JCR Q1), Transportation Safety and Environment (IF: 2.7), Sensors (IF: 3.5, JCR Q2), and Infrastructures (IF: 2.9, JCR Q3). He also serves as a Young Editorial Board Member of Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering (IF: 4.2) and several EI journals, including Chinese Journal of Engineering Science, Journal of Railway Science and Engineering, and Power System Protection and Control, as well as the international journal Complex Engineering Systems.
He is Chair of the Pantograph–Catenary Interaction Subcommittee under the Railway Transportation Power Traction Systems Division of the World Transport Convention (WTC), Organizing Committee Member and Chair of the Traction Power Supply Technology Session of the World Congress on Railway Research (Railways 2022, 2024, 2026), and Co-Chair of the 5th and 6th International Conference on Electrical and Information Technologies for Rail Transportation (EITRT 2021). He also serves as Consulting Editor for special topics in Infrastructures and Vehicles, and Guest Editor for Sensors, Sustainability, Lubricants, and Shock and Vibration.
In 2025, he received the Outstanding Editorial Board Member Award from Protection and Control of Modern Power Systems and the Outstanding Young Editorial Board Member Award from Transportation Safety and Environment. He was recognized as Outstanding Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement in 2023 and 2024, and as Outstanding Reviewer of the same journal in 2021 and 2022. He was listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists (Annual Impact) for three consecutive years (2023–2025) and for Career-Long Impact in 2025. He received the Second Prize of the Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award (5/15) in 2022, the Second Prize of the Tibet Autonomous Region Science and Technology Progress Award (4/15), and the First Prize of the China Railway Society Science and Technology Award (14/25) in 2024.
