He was a teaching assistant in 1986, a lecturer in 1988, an associate professor in 1991, a professor in 1995, a supervisor of doctorate candidates in 1999 and a visiting professor at the University of Southampton in 2000. 

He has participated in the design and scientific research work of Humen Bridge, Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge, Nanjing Second Yangtze River Bridge, Runyang Yangtze River Bridge, Hangzhou Bay Bridge, Qinghai-Tibet Railway Bridge, Qiongzhou Strait Super-Span Bridge (pre-feasibility study), presided over more than 80 NSFC projects and other scientific research projects, participated in the "Design Code of Highway Suspension Bridge", served as technical consultant and consultant for 50 large-scale bridge construction projects, and published more than 120 papers. He visited many famous bridges and special structure bridges in more than 60 countries.

He has been awarded Special Government Subsidies by the State Council, selected as "the National Railway Outstanding Science and Technology Workers", "the Ministry of Railways Young Scince and Tchnology Top Talent", won the first prize of provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress, China Highway Society Science and Technology Award, China Railway Society outstanding paper first prize, China Highway Society outstanding paper award, access to a number of national authorized invention patents.
