Faculty Profile

Dr. Zhang got Doctor's degree at the University of East Anglia in UK on the  modelling the effects of land-use change on groundwater in the Nottingham  Sherwood Sandstone aquifer, which was supported by the UK Environment Agency and  the Forest Committee. She graduated from the Chongqing University in 2002 with a  Bachelor’s degree in Water Supply & Drainage Engineering and received her  Master’s degree in Water Treatment from the University in 2005.
After back  to China, she has taken research works on surface water and groundwater resource  planning and management in the Southwest Municipal Engineering Design &  Research Institute of China (SMEDRIC) since 2010 and joint in the State Key  Laboratory of Geohazard Prevention and Geoenvironment Protection (SKLGP) to  carry out the research project of groundwater contamination investigation and  prediction. Currently, she has extended her research interests at the Southwest  Jiaotong University to include the modelling of groundwater flow and mass  transport and groundwater contaminant hydrogeology. She has coupled the  groundwater modelling with experimental study to understand groundwater recharge  and mass transport processes and have developed methods to demonstrate the  sources and fate of concomitants (e.g. Nitrate) from agricultural diffused  pollution with Geographic Information System. Besides, she has also conducted  serval groundwater impact assessment for the projects such as landfill, mine and  tunnel, both in the Sichuan and other provinces. Allied to these studies, she is  currently researching the impacts of land management practices and land use  change on groundwater resources and groundwater quality through the application  of groundwater models.
