Mingke Hu is a Full Professor of Thermal Science at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University. With over a decade of research experience, his expertise spans solar energy technologies, radiative sky cooling, thermochemical energy storage, and low-carbon building technologies.
After obtaining his PhD from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2017, Professor Hu served as a postdoctoral research fellow at USTC for two and a half years. In December 2019, he joined the University of Nottingham as a Marie Curie Individual Fellow. Subsequently, he became a Senior Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore in July 2022. In January 2024, he joined Southwest Jiaotong University as a tenure-track research professor and was promoted to Full Professor in December of the same year.
Professor Hu has led over 10 research and talent projects funded by organizations such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Key R&D Program of China, and the EU Horizon 2020. His research contributions are evidenced by over 40 SCI-indexed publications where he served as the first or corresponding author, attracting over 3,900 citations collectively. Additionally, he holds 12 authorized invention patents.
Recognized for his academic achievements, Professor Hu has received accolades including the NSFC Excellent Young Scientists (Overseas) in 2024, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship in 2019, the Chinese National Postdoctoral Program for Innovative Talents in 2017, and a World Top 2% Scientist since 2022. Additionally, he has been honored with the Innovation Award from the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies in 2021, the Grand Gold Medal at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions in 2016, and the Excellent Doctoral Dissertations Award from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2018.
In terms of academic service, Professor Hu serves as an associate editor for the journal Frontiers in Energy Research (IF: 2.9) and sits on the editorial boards of six international journals, including Building Simulation (IF: 6.1). He is also a member of scientific committees for various international conferences focused on net-zero carbon built environments and alternative energy technologies. He has chaired sessions at the International Conference for Global Chinese Academia on Energy and Built Environment.
