- Abstract:It is generally believed that solar activities are closely linked with magnetic fields on the solar surface. To learn more about how solar flares are produced in relation to solar magnetic configurations,we examined a total of 37,741 soft X-ray solar flare events observed by a series of GOES satellites. The flare and sunspot data catalogued by NOAA were obtained from July 1996 through December 2018,covering solar cycles 23 and 24. The investigated flares consist of B-,C-,M-,and X-class events, while sunspot groups were classified according to the Hale magnetic complexity system. Using cross-correlation and Multi-Taper Method analyses,we find that B-class flares are negatively correlated with all sunspot groups, whereas other flare classes show strong positive correlations, particularly between C-class flares and β-type sunspot groups. The results demonstrate that complex active regions (βγ and βγδ) are more likely to produce energetic flares, although their lower occurrence rates limit their total flare productivity.
