Dr. Jun Zhao is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Transportation and Logistics at Southwest Jiaotong Univserity. Dr. Zhao obtained his Bachelor degree in Transportation Engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University in July 2008. Sequentially he obtained his PhD degree supervised by Professor Qiyuan Peng also in Transportation Engineering from Southwest Jiaotiong University in July 2013. During November 2011 to November 2012, Dr. Zhao was a visiting student supervised by Professor Der-Horng Lee in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at National University of Singapore. In July 2013, Dr. Zhao joined the Department of Transportation Engineering as a Lecture in the School of Transportation and Logistics at Southwest Jiaotong University. In December 2017, he was appointed as an Associate Professor in the School of Transportation and Logistics at Southwest Jiaotong Univserity.

Dr. Zhao has been active in the areas of railway transportation organization, transportation planning and management. He is the principle investigator of several scientific and technological projects funded by the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Ministry of Education (MOE), China, etc. He has published several papers in important international and domestic journals and conferences in the areas of transportation and logistics, such as Transportation Research Part B, Transportation Research Part C, Transportation Research Part E, European Journal of Operational Research, International Seminar on Railway Operations Research (ISROR), Conference on Advanced Systems in Public Transport (CASPT), and Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting. Dr. Zhao received the Honorable Mention Award with Dr. Jiangang Jin in the 2011 Problem Solving Competition organized by the Railway Application Section (RAS) of INFORMS.
