Personal profile

    Wanli Yang, Ph.D, associate professor in School of Civil Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China. He focus on the interaction between water and structures, in detail, the interaction between water and bridges, and the interaction between water and houses. The Structural Engineering in China is subdivided into two majors, i.e. Bridge Engineering and Structural Engineering (Industrial and Civil Buildings), which may be different from other countries. He guides two kinds of students, namely the Master Degree candidate in Structural Engineering and the Doctor Degree candidate in Bridge Engineering. In Structural Engineering, the interaction between tsunami and residential houses are the concerns, in addition, the Prefabricated Assembly Structure is his new direction. In Bridge Engineering, the interaction between water (current, wave, flood, tsunami) and bridge, and the earthquake induced hydrodynamic forces on deep water bridge piers are his focuses. 
    His researches have received many supports from enterprises and governmental foundations, for example, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Sichuan Science and Technology Department, etc. Also He has published more than 40 paper on the journals, such as Ocean Engineering, Journal of Bridge Engineering ASCE, Journal of Hydraulic Research, Environmental Fluid Mechanics and many Chinese journals. 
    He is open mind, hardworking, friendly, full of responsibility and also strict with the research work. He welcomes the students who are diligent and willing to improve themselves by training of research work. The students are expected to apply the scholarship from China Scholarship Council or from our university, or from other organizations. He can provide guidance, desk room, computers for numerical simulation, basic requirements of physical experiment, etc.
