    Brief Biography

Huanlai Xing, Ph.D., Associate Professor, and PhD Supervisor. Dr. Xing received the BSc (Eng.) degree in Communications Engineering from Southwest Jiaotong University in 2006, the MSc (Eng.) degree in Electromagnetic fields & Wavelength Technology from Beijing University of Posts & Telecommunications in 2009 and the PhD degree in Computer Science (Prof Rong Qu was my doctorate supervisor, personal website http://www.cs.nott.ac.uk/~pszrq/) from The University of Nottingham, UK, in 2013, respectively. From Jan 2020 to Jan 2021, Dr. Xing visited the Computational Intelligence and Self-Adaptive Systems (CISA) Laboratory at the University of Rhode Island under the supervision of Professor Haibo He (Robert Haas Endowed Chair Professor, IEEE Fellow, personal website https://www.ele.uri.edu/faculty/he/). With the support from the SWJTU “Talents Program”, he is now an associate professor with the School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence at Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) and with SWJTU Tangshan Institute. Dr Xing is an assistant to the Dean of School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence. His research interests include Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Semantic Communication, Multi-Access Edge Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning, Time Series Mining, Evolutoinary Computation, Multi-objective Optimization, etc. He has authored and co-authored more than 100 high quality journal and conference papers, such as IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems, IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation & Measurement, IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Systems, International Journal of Intelligent Systems,  Future Generation Computer Systems, Information Sciences, Applied Soft Computing, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, China Communications, Soft Computing, Journal of the Operational Research Society, IEEE Communications Letters, Applied Intelligence, Computer Communications, INFOCOM, ICC, GLOBECOM, etc. Among them, FIVE are ESI highly cited papers, including ONE ESI Hot paper (Nov. 2023). Huanlai was awarded Second Prize of Sichuan Province Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award twice, one in 2017 (Randed 8th) and the other in 2022 (Randed 6th). Co-authored paper "Software-Defined Container Network Oriented Link Failure Recovery Method" received the Best Paper Award of the 11th China Conference on Command and Control in 2023. Huanlai was the principle investigator of a number projects/grants, including National natural Science Fundation of China (NSFC), the Scientific Research Foundation for the Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars, State Education Ministry, and Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities, etc. Moreover, he participated in a number of national and international academic projects, including China Scholarship Council project, National 863 program project, National Nature Science Foundation project, Britain Government EPSRC project, and Nottingham University project. Huanlai's team closely collaborated with China Unicom and other institutes/companies to compose THREE industrial standards (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) and ONE white paper. The relevant results won the "ICT China Innovation Application Award" from the China Communications Enterprise Association and the "Leading Scientific and Technological Achievement Award" from the China International Big Data Industry Expo. Huanlai guided "Rhythm Team" at SWJTU (team members: Hu Hu, Wuzhou Sun, Yutong Pu, Xusheng Li, Mu He; instructors: Huanlai Xing, Li Feng, Ke Li) to win the 2023 Tencent Enlightenment Artificial Intelligence National Open Senior Track Championship. He was on Editorial Board (Young Scientists Committee) of SCIENCE CHINA Information Sciences from 2018 to 2022. He has been a referee for a number of international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, IEEE Computational Intelligence Magazine, IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, Knowledge-Based Systems, Expert Systems With Applications, Computer Networks, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Science China Information Sciences, and so on. He is a member of ACM, IEEE, China Computer Federation (CCF), CCF Theoretical Computer Science Technical Committee, as well as a number of international conference program committee members such as ECML-PKDD、TrustCom、CEC、GECCO、MobiMedia、ISCIT、ICCC、ICSINC. In particular, Huanlai was the workshop co-chair of AINet2019, MLFuNet-2020, AINet2021, and BDRA2023. He was awarded SWJTU Sishi Star in 2014 and ACM Rising Star (Chengdu) in 2016, respectively. In 2018, he was elected as a backup candidate for academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province, China. He was included in the 2023 Stanford's list of World's Top 2% Scientists in the latest "single-recent-year-impact" metric.
