Abstract:Women's pain becomes believable in this corpus through institutional records, family reading practices and the material features of the page. Mediated credibility names the work that turns pain into evidence without making it transparent or fully available to readers. Read as a strategic feminist archive, the German-language corpus reveals four routes to recognition: institutional documentation in Monika B.; familial rereading in Schnittstellen; relational address and autobiographical exposure in Lilly Lindner's writing; and handwriting and drawing in Seelenficker and Verschlossene Seele. These forms can contest denial and diagnostic reduction, yet they can also make pain easier to manage, appropriate or consume. Taken together, the cases reveal how institutional, familial, relational and material practices determine which accounts of women's pain become believable, to whom and at what cost.
