Supervisor of Doctorate Candidates
1. Education and working experience
Shihui LUO, was born in 1964, graduated from Shanghai Jiaotong University with a bachelor degree in engineering in 1985 majored in shipping power plant. He obtained his master degree in engineering in the year 1988 majored in vibration control and obtained his doctor degree in engineering in the year 1991 in the same major
He was a three months invited scholar by Siemens transportation department (Siemens VT) between Sep.1994-Dec.1994. During this time he visited Technology University Berlin and most of railway factories belonged to Siemens VT.
Between June,1996-May,1997, he worked one year as a practical scholar under the support of Siemens stipend in a railway factory named DUEWAG (a Siemens subsidiary company) , his work there was the simulation of tram car dynamics.
He is now a professor in Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) majored in railway vehicles. He is now also the director of the Institute of Railway Vehicles, an institute under TPL with 17 faculties.
2. Research and teaching experience
Since worked in SWJTU, his researches are focused on rail vehicle design (special in bogie design) and dynamics. The typical projects finished by him were:
- Radial bogie design for DF8 diesel locomotive (this design is used by DF21 diesel locomotive, by PN locomotive exported to Australia, and by locomotive exported to Namibia), 1995, 2012 respctively
- Design and dynamical analysis of tram car bogie with independent wheel pairs. This tram car war put into operation in the city of Dalian, 2000
- Solve the hunting problem of electrical locomotive SS9,2006
- Solve the vertical vibration of DF8 locomotive equipped with GM radial bogie, 2007
- Design of magnetic levitation rolling stocks for city transportation in Shanghai and the same design for China South Rolling Stocks group (CSR), 2004, 2010 respectively
- In the year 1992-1994, he was the key designer of driving bogie for Chinese high speed train titled “Chinese star” or “Blue Arrow”
- Concept design bogie for 200km/h electrical locomotive, 2011
In recent year, he gives courses titled respectively “Multi-body system dynamics for railway vehicles”, “Railway bearing” for the master degree students in SWJTU. And each year, about 3 master degree students are finished their works under his supervision. About 1 Ph.D candidate finished his work every two years under his supervision.
From the year 2012, he was invited to give courses titled respectively “Railway vehicle dynamics” and “Railway vehicle design and theory” for overseas students with English.
