Huayi Liu received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Sichuan University’s State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy in 2021, followed by postdoctoral training at Tianjin University. His research focuses on microbial synthetic biology, with an emphasis on integrating metabolic engineering and enzyme engineering to develop microbial cell factories for high-value natural products and cosmetic ingredients, particularly bioactive compounds found in traditional Chinese medicines. His work spans biosynthetic pathway engineering, enzyme optimization, and the translation of microbial production technologies into practical applications.

He has published nine articles as first or corresponding author, including shared first or corresponding authorship, in journals such as Nature Communications and Bioresource Technology. His research is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Sichuan Province Science and Technology Support Program, with him serving as principal investigator. He is also a named inventor on six invention patent applications, including three granted patents, and has successfully transferred technology for the production of high-value pharmaceutical ingredients.
